Will Whispering Canyon Cafe Go Quiet?
As part of my 30th Birthday trip in March, we stayed one night at Disney's Wilderness Lodge's new Copper Creek Villas. This was, surprisingly enough, my first time ever at the Wilderness Lodge in my 30 years of Disney-loving-life! It is gorgeous! Now one that I highly recommend to clients looking to stay near MK area but with a different atmosphere than the Grand, Poly, or Contemporary. There are great pools, walking trails, and the recently remodeled villas are amazing. We also took a little walk to the new cabins, which we would have loved to stay at - but maybe for a longer trip, as there are areas where you can grill out and hang out.
Since we were arriving here directly from the airport via Disney’s Magical Express, I booked us a late lunch/early dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe in the main lobby of the Lodge. I had heard good things about this place and it did not disappoint!
You can order vanilla, chocolate or strawberry BOTTOMLESS milkshakes! Keep 'em comin'! I ordered a Bison Burger (photo below) with sweet potato fries and a fried pickle (my favorite.) It was melt-in-your-mouth delicious! But beyond the yummy food and endless milkshakes, the service is what you come to Whispering Canyon Cafe for.
Similarly to Hollywood Studios' 50's Prime Time Cafe, the servers are full of jokes and put you in the middle of their storyline. The antics were fun and family-friendly. We asked for straws for our milkshakes and he tossed a giant handful of them on the table -- way more than we would need -- but it was comical. Things like this continued with napkins and such. Plus he would crack "punny" jokes when we ordered or asked for things. Just some of the fun things that make Whispering Canyon…well…Whispering Canyon!
I was sad to learn this week that these jovial sidebars are going away. I'm not sure who thought this was a good decision, as Disney is known for putting you in the middle of the show, but the rumor is the servers will no longer being "horsing around" and bringing you tons of ketchup with your fries.
We'll keep you posted if anything changes as nothing has officially been changed in the description on the Walt Disney World website, but more often than not these rumors wind up to be true. Fear not though! There are plenty of amazing places and fun interactions at Walt Disney World!

Good news! It was announced that the changes would not be coming to the story line or server humor, but to the menu! From the Disney Parks Blog:
“Today, Whispering Canyon Café at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge launched a new menu, offering skillets galore! The fun-filled restaurant is known for its sassy cast members, Old Western games, and fine frontier fare, which now includes a whole new array of all-you-care-to-enjoy signature skillets for lunch and dinner (starting today), as well as breakfast skillets (starting March 26). And while your clients chow down on these signature skillets, our rowdy canyon townsfolk are here to serve them, and their boisterous goings-on aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Do the hokey pokey, ring the dinner bell, and even ask for ketchup (at your own risk, of course). But that’s enough hootin’ and hollerin’ for right now – let’s get right into these delicious new items!”
The new skillet menu includes BBQ Spare Ribs, beef brisket, pulled pork, herbed chicken, and even a vegan option! Each one of these hearty all-you-care-to-enjoy skillets comes with a different assortment of sides that may include coleslaw, sautéed green beans, buttered corn, oven-roasted carrots, charred peppers, BBQ cauliflower, Yukon mashed potatoes, or roasted potatoes.
If is one thing I’m always excited for, it is a good brunch! As soon as Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast opened at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort, I was there! Now that Whispering Canyon Cafe will now start offering breakfast, you know that is on my Disney Breakfast Bucket List! Guests will be able to enjoy hearty breakfast skillets, along with classics like bacon, scrambled eggs, and of course — Mickey waffles!
