Vacation at Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort

It is hard to believe that almost a year ago we were on our vacation at Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort. We are scheduled to go back this June, however, given the current pandemic we are doubtful that will happen sadly. In anticipation of what would have been our second vacation at Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort, I was looking back on pictures and memories of all the amazing things we did last summer. I wanted to share a few of those with you!

The Disney Resort at Hilton Head

The Resort is a fantastic balance between Southern charm and Disney magic. It is very clean, well-maintained, and the service is top-notch like any other Disney Destination. We were greeted by a Cast Member waving a Mickey gloved hand as we entered the property to check-in. Finnegan even found a statue of “the big cheese” himself in the lobby!

There are many great activities to do right on the resort property such as hammocks for reading and relaxing, shuffleboard courts, bags, and bocce courts. There is a great pool with a waterslide (which we made many trips down!) Additionally, there are many daily activities going on either at the pool, the picnic tables, or in the clubhouse. These ranged from Disney trivia and pool dance parties to arts and crafts such as painting and t-shirt tie-dye! All the activities were supervised by Disney cast members and very fun! Our favorite thing was renting bicycles for the duration of our trip. You’d see bike racks parked everywhere and we’d ride them around the property, to the beach (and on the beach at low tide), and even to restaurants.

Restaurants in Hilton Head

Speaking of restaurants… we had some amazing food while we were there. (You’ll sense a trend in many of my vacation posts in reference to the delicious food!) Since Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort is a DVC resort, these rooms were Villas, which means they had a fully equipped kitchen. We did eat some meals here and even used one of the grills on the property to have a barbecue one evening for dinner. It is a nice way to reduce spending on vacation and have a relaxing night at a beautiful property.

One of my favorite places we went for brunch was Southern Coney and Breakfast. It was a cute little dive diner with incredible pancakes. We even bought a box of pancake mix to take home with us! We also enjoyed Java Burrito Co. for breakfast another morning. If I could try to describe this hip joint, it would be if Chipotle merged with a coffee shop - but better! They had incredible coffee and unique flavored lattes. You could also build your own breakfast burritos and tacos. Major yum! We treated ourselves one evening to a nice dinner at Ela’s on the Water. As you can tell by the photo of Finn eating pasta it was a hit! This was a more upscale dining experience with exceptional service and incredible views. We then walked around the area afterward and caught some live music.

Visiting the Beach in Hilton Head

Pretty much every day we rode our bikes to the beach. We packed our baskets with shovels and pails, snacks, adult beverages :) and extra sunscreen and rode to the beach. One of the perks of being a guest of Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort is that they have a beachfront property where you can reserve beach chairs, cool off in the shade (or air conditioning), take a dip in the pool, and grab a bite to eat. We could park our bikes here, grab towels and water, and walk down to the beach. We did reserve chairs on the beach a couple of days with an umbrella to ensure we had some shade. The sun in July here is hot and fierce so pack lots of sunscreen and take breaks!

We enjoyed some time at the beach-front pool. It was smaller than the main resort pool but also less crowded. It had a volleyball net and there are lifejackets, restrooms, and clean towels for use on the property. There is a quick-service restaurant that served up burgers, sandwiches, fries, and more. Plus a bar with cocktails, non-alcoholic smoothies, and Mickey Mouse shaved ice! It is like your own little private oasis on the beach.
